Things to do in St Pete 10/28-10/30

Halloween is here! Time for tricks, treats, costumes and… seafood? That’s right! This weekend is packed full of good eats and family fun. We don’t want you to miss any of these things to do in St Pete this weekend.

St. John’s Seafood Festival

The the 35th year, St John’s Pass will be holding it’s annual seafood fest in on the boardwalk in Madeira Beach. Along with 100 (yes, you read that right) seafood options, there will be music, art and chef show-downs. We’ve heard rumors of their being a world record Bloody Mary toast and you definitely want to be a part of that, right? There are family friendly events including a kids costume contest on Saturday at 3pm. The festival starts at noon Thursday, October 27th and goes until Sunday, October 30th. Head over to their website for a full list of events.

Neighborhood Block Parties

Halloween is the kick-off to family friendly block parties all over the city. Some of our favorite dsc_0857neighborhoods are no exception, including Crescent Heights who is holding a Halloween bock party on Saturday, October 29th from 5-7pm. This neighborhood really gets into the Halloween spirit with almost every house hanging pumpkins from the trees in their yard. The Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association is holding their annual Halloween Porch Party on Friday, October 28th from 7:30-10:30pm. Wear your costume and be a part of the community’s spooky event.

Fall Festival Family Fun Day

Sundial St. Pete is hosting a family-friendly Fall Festival on Sunday, October 30th from 12-3pm. The event is going to be held at the Sundial plaza. Families can enjoy a magic show, face painting, and trick-or-treating (of course). The Nomad Art Bus will also be in attendance. This event is free to the public and costumes are encouraged.

Weekend Events in St. Petersburg – October 15th

As a seasoned resident of St. Petersburg would expect, this weekend is full of events happening throughout the city. The beautiful weather (fall, is that you?) has finally come and it is the perfect time to spend a day out and about in our lovely city. Here are three events in St. Petersburg you should check out.

Celebrating the Arts

This weekend celebrates the re-opening of the famous Chihuly Museum to its new location 720Events in St. Petersburg Central Avenue. This is a wonderful addition to the Central Avenue Arts District with the Morean Arts Center right across the street. The new Chihuly Museum will hold a ribbon cutting at 9:30am and will open to the public 10:00am Saturday, October 15th. The Collection will remain open until 7pm. Tickets are available at the box office and there is no ticket required to enjoy the block party. Our recommendation: Have breakfast at Banyan Cafe before and an ice pop at The Hyppo after. It’ll be a amazing.

Coastal Cleanups

If environmentalism is your thing, you can participate in one of the many cleanup events in St. Petersburg Saturday morning. Crescent Lake, Mirror Lake (from 8am-11am), Clam Bayou in Gulport, North Shore Beach downtown (from 9am-12pm) are all having cleanup days. These events are hosted by Keep Pinellas Beautiful and supplies will be provided (just make sure to bring a reusable water bottle). This is an amazing way to give back to our beloved neighborhoods and keep them shining brightly.

Shopping and Music

Take advantage of this amazing weather by visiting the folks at the Saturday Morning Market from 9am-2pm in lively downtown St. Pete. It is of St. Petersburg’s most loved events to pick up all things local and regional and you can find just about anything you need here. The vendors include produce stands, local makers as well as live music. If you are new to the area, this is the best place to meet your neighbors and experience the diversity of our city. The market is held every Saturday from now until May (except March 11th, 2017) at 1st Avenue S and 1st Street S, next to the Rowdie’s Stadium.

What to do this Halloween in St Pete

This weekend, St Petersburg will be having many events, trails and walks to celebrate Halloween. Here are just a few of the best!

Trick or Treating in the Old Northeast neighborhood

Old Northeast residents have been decorating their homes in anticipation of Halloween for weeks. Anything from simple skeletons on the porch to full haunted houses. Ghosts, witches and zombies swing from trees, severed heads bump into passing trick-or-treaters, and the streets quickly fill as children emerge from buses and cars. Neighbors spend the evening on their porches, offering friendly greetings and candy to trick or treaters.

Since 1996 people continue to come from all over Pinellas to see the biggest celebration of its kind in the Tampa Bay area.

Three ribbons are awarded for first, second and third places, and a special award is presented for the best-themed decor. Judges are neighborhood volunteers from all age groups who view entries the night before, then meet to vote on the winners.

 Hellview Cemetery

Hellview Cemetery is a free local haunted attraction in St. Pete, which started in 1996.  No one knows how old Hellview Cemetery really is-some say it existed even before the Seminole Indians ever set foot on the peninsula of what is now Saint Petersburg, Florida.

This year the disappearance of Madame Oar is still leaving the power balance of Hellview in shambles. Swamp Water Maggie and her loyal tribe of were-wolves, the Lugaru family, have been battling every force of evil that rises within the walls of Hellview for years. Come and see what tries to escape from Hellview this year. Great costumes, makeup and sets.
